You may have a hard time believing this, but depression may be a sign that you are not getting enough nutrients. Having a big salad just might make you feel better fast. Chemical imbalance is a trendy new diagnosis – which simply means, you’re not getting enough nutrients.

Make sure you are eating a balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, and lean meat in moderation.

They have found a link between folate deficiency and depression, especially in older people.

Feel good by eating Chili peppers, chocolate, flax seed, fish, green tea, lemon, omega 3s, peppermint, sage, selenium rich foods.

Omega 3s are important for brain functioning. Get plenty of Omega 3s either through eating fish, or taking fish oil supplements.

5-HTP is a supplement that increases your serotonin levels. SAM-E and St. John’s Wort work well for some people.

Green Tea is calming. It really works.

Aromatherapy – pleasant smells – Some people like lavender, some like rose. Find a scent that pleases you.

Get out in the sun. Vitamin D is important and you can supplement, but the warmth of real sun makes you feel so good!

Get enough exercise.

Listen to music that makes you feel good.

Laugh

Reduce overwhelm by lightening your schedule. I know this seems impossible at times, doesn’t it? Finding efficient ways to get things done will help.

Keep your home environment clean and calm. Nothing agitates like clutter and mess, and things left undone. You may not feel like doing something that needs to be done right now, but you’ll feel a lot better when it’s done.

Avoid alcohol, artificial sweeteners, especially aspartame, caffeine, and too much sugar.
