Dinner planning 101 – ground beef

What's for Dinner? So many people are having problems with meal planning.

I’m going to run a few posts on how I plan dinners. I’m also working on a meal planning ebook that will go along with your ‘How to Lose Weight Without Losing Your Mind.’

I can stretch food pretty far.

Here’s how I roll –

Every couple of weeks I buy lean ground beef, chicken, and pork chops. I do buy other things as well, but these are my staples. I’m sorry to say that I really don’t like fish.

When I get home from the store, I individually wrap each chicken breast and pork chop. I sprinkle the pork chops with garlic powder. This is a trick that an old friend taught me. It tenderizes the pork chops.

Then I take the ground beef and form 1/3 pound patties and individually wrap. I do not add anything to the meat. I season the burgers when I am cooking them.

Now I have plenty of options. If its just going to be me for dinner, I can take out one piece. It there will be more than just me, I can take out as many as I will need.

This week, I picked up a larger package of ground beef. I made hamburgers for dinner, and cooked up a pot of chili that would feed us for a few days.

The hamburger was actually an olive cheeseburger on garlic bread with a spinach salad on the side. Very yum, and very filling.

One night the chili was plain, topped with grated cheddar cheese and diced onion.

One night I added macaroni shells and made chili mac.

One night I grilled up hot dogs and made chili dogs with the chili that was left.

You’ll need to have salad fixings, and maybe some French or Italian bread, and buns for the hamburger buns (we use Kaiser rolls) on hand. You’ll also want cheese and maybe onion for topping the chili. When you are planning your meals and making your shopping list, make sure you remember all of the things you are going to need for that dinner.

Sometimes we’ll get a taste for stuffed cabbage. We love it, but it is a lot of work.

I don’t make meatloaf very often either. It takes too long to cook.

If it takes longer than 30 minutes to get on the table, I rarely make it. I just don’t have time to spend an hour making dinner.

So you see, you can eat fresh real food, even if you live a super busy life.

I’ll do a chicken meal planning maybe next week…

Do you have a favorite hamburger dish that takes less than 30 minutes to get on the table, and uses no processed ingredients?

hamburger making setFor making and storing the hamburgers, I have had this set for at least 30 years. I’m amazed that you can still get it!
