I’ve been helping my sister cleaning houses. Its busy season with the holidays. And it helped me get back in shape.

As far as new tips, there isn’t much new. They use magic eraser for a lot of hard cleaning. They used them with vinegar in a couple of houses that have chronically bad glass shower doors.

But I find that there are a few things that are always missed.

Door frames is one. And I’m not even talking about the tops. I can’t tell you how many houses had cobwebs and dust that hadn’t been touched in a while.

Ceiling fans. OMG! It doesn’t do a lot of good to dust if the ceiling fan is going to spray the room with more dust. Some of these were totally disgusting!

Baseboards. Some of these hadn’t been touched in so long that it actually took some scrubbing to get them clean. That’s especially bad if you have white trim.

Grout. This one is missed because it actually takes a few more minutes to actually clean the grout. Its a few minutes well spent. One the dirt and mold is built up, it is a whole lot of work.

Grooves and scroll work on wood furniture. This one really bugs me. Some of these pieces are not very old, yet they have dust build up in the crevices. As old as my furniture is, I don’t have that kind of build up. To get that out, simply spray Pledge right into the crevice. Then take a rag made from an old t-shirt and cover your thumb nail. Run your thumb nail along the crevice to clean it out.

For very intricate designs, you can use a very soft tooth brush. If the build up is bad, you may want to use Murphy’s first. Rinse with a slightly damp rag, let it dry, and then shine it up.

It you have actual cut outs where the dirt accumulates, take a t-shirt rag and spray some pledge on a corner. Pull the corner of the rag through the cut out and gently pull back and forth to rub out the dirt.

OK, now you can go double check 😉

How to keep your house looking great without killing yourself – even through the holidays!
