How busy women can stay fit

When you think of someone thin and fit, you assume that they spend a lot of time working out, right?

Before my daughter was born, I went to the gym 3 times a week, but then… well, you know! Who has time for that?

The truth is, the people who are the fittest and healthiest stay that way by simply getting out from in front of the TV and living life.

Clean the house. You can burn 200 calories doing heavy cleaning. Plus you get the stretching and bending and lifting. Who needs a gym?

This article at verywellfit.com shows you how you can turn your house cleaning into a full body workout.

Gardening. According to WebMD, you can burn a lot of calories just working outside –

  • Shoveling snow: 400-600 calories per hour
  • Heavy yard work (landscaping, moving rocks, hauling dirt): 400-600 calories per hour
  • Raking and bagging leaves: 350-450 calories per hour
  • Gardening: pulling weeds, planting flowers, etc.: 200-400 calories per hour
  • Mowing the lawn: 250-350 calories per hour

Walk your dog. You can burn an average of 100 calories per mile – about 20 minutes of walking.

Play with your kids.

Golf, bowl, swim, dance,

I truthfully do very little formal exercise. Life is my exercise.

You know I sure don’t have a lot of time for working out, but I’ve managed to keep this old body in pretty good shape. I’m known for being pretty darned strong. I put a lot of guys to shame.

Here’s my prescription –

Breathing and Posture exercises whenever you think of it. They can be done anywhere, any time.

Stretching – Keeping your muscles limber is a big anti-aging secret. Recent research even shows a connection between muscle flexibility and artery flexibility.

Walking for lower body, and stress relief. Strive for 20-30 minutes a day. It takes about 20 minutes at a medium pace to walk a mile.

Dancing, vacuuming, and house cleaning are all workouts too 😉

Resistance exercise for upper body 3 times a week. Do not do these everyday. You can get the bands at Amazon. Your arms will look great!

That’s really all I do. Don’t discount the effectiveness of these exercises just because they’re so simple. Put your disbelief aside and try them for a few weeks.

If you’re so moved and you want to be super toned, you can try these exercises.

I think I just saved you the cost of a gym membership 🙂
