Women who do this are happier

Good Morning! You’ve been led to believe that doing less will make you happy.

It’s not true.

When we are the happiest is when we are doing all we are capable of.

Oh, you might think I’m full of it, but look around the next few days. Notice the women that seem happier.

You’ll find that the women who do less are always the ones complaining that they are so tired and so unhappy.

The women who do it all are happier, confident, and full of energy.

I know, it defies all logic. It doesn’t make sense. But its true.

Could it be that living in a clean house makes you happier?

That having a healthy body feels better?

That pushing yourself  to be your best is invigorating?

Could it be about loving yourself and all of your abilities?

Could it be that giving your life your all makes life worthwhile?

Could it be that living your life makes you feel more alive?

Could it be that providing your family with a clean comfortable home and great homecooked meals is the ultimate way to show love?

Oh, but you say – “I have a job. I’m too tired to do anything when I get home.”

Or here’s one I hear all the time – “So and so won’t help do anything and its not fair.”

It’s so easy to fall into that way of thinking. The problem is, when you look around at all the things left undone, you start to beat yourself up. At that point, things may have gone undone long enough that it is now overwhelming.

The other strange truth is, the women who do it all have more free time to spend with family and friends and do the things they want to do.

How can that be?

They keep up. A few minutes here and there. When they use something, they put it way.

When there’s a spill, they wipe it up while its still easy.

When they do laundry, they do it all the way through – folded and put away.

They have a plan for dinner before they leave for work.

They don’t let things pile up.They know that putting things off only means more work later.

Its just a series of minute by minute decisions that save hours in the long run.

They work smarter – not harder.

Yes, its easy to put things off. But its horrible living with the consequences. Get in the habit of doing it now and see how much easier and more fulfilling your life is.

Is your home ready for the holidays?

Holiday HomeOh yeah, the holidays are right around the corner. Its going to be November. We’re turning the clocks back. Boy, it just snuck up on us this year, didn’t it?

Here are some things you should be thinking about getting done this week –

Cleaning windows. Winter is gloomy enough without having to look out grimy windows too! Its amazing how much brighter and fresher your home feels when the windows are clean.

Got any decorating projects you’ve been meaning to finish before the holidays? Time to get moving. I’ve had more than one year where I was finishing up the night before Thanksgiving. Not fun!

Do a thorough deep clean through the house during the next week so your work load, and stress load are lighter. Get those corners and baseboards. Wash curtains and throw rugs.

If there is even a possibility that you might have overnight guests, make sure you have enough presentable bedding and towels on hand and clean.

Check that you have enough silverware and glasses. Check your tablecloths.

Start buying non-perishable items that you will need. It will be less stress on you and your budget if you start picking things up now.

Same goes for Christmas presents. Start keeping your eyes open for gift ideas and deals!

Every little thing you can knock off now will mean less stress later. And that will make your holidays a whole lot brighter!

Are you feeling the stress yet? The circus is in full swing. Its time to start juggling work, school, homework, dinners, sports, housecleaning, meals, and, and, and…

And that always leads to stress.

I know planning is not fun, necessarily. But it saves your life.

Planning meals is probably one of the most important things you can do. I know that if I don’t have enough meal choices planned for the week, we end up eating out. Bad for the wallet, the waistline, your health, and your energy.

I struggle with that myself. Its hard to plan a week of meals. And there is always at least one day when even the best laid plans fall short. Its really hard to get excited about dinner when you’re getting home at 8 or 9.

Go inside for easy dinners you will look forward to. Its still free. I haven’t had time to work on it much these days.

Most of you own Secret Confession of a Clean Freak, so you have a plan to keep the house clean – no matter how buys life gets. Works great, doesn’t it?

But there are 2 other tips that help save my butt.

Use every spare minute.

While waiting for my daughter to be ready to walk the dog, I knock out a couple of the dishes.

If I know I’m going to be up for a couple of hours, I throw some laundry in. For the most part, the laundry doesn’t need me. It can be running while I do something else.

Anyway – you get the point, right?

The second tip is – do things when they need to be done.

A good example was getting gas. It was still 4.09, and I know I was going to need gas in the next day or so. But no. I put it off. Now I have to get gas, and its 4.29. UGH! No, I didn’t feel like taking the stupid 5 minutes and getting it done. We always pay when we put things off.

And 1 more thing helps save me mentally.

Get exercise.

I’m serious. That 2 mile walk at night helps so much. I’m not saying you have to do anything that extreme, but do something to get your body moving every day. It really helps relieve stress.

That’s how I’m surviving these days.

How to easily eat enough vegetables every day – its not as hard as you think

Vegetables Serviing SizesIt was reported on the news last night that only 13% of people eat enough vegetables. I find that hard to believe. Seems like the produce section is always busy.

3-5 servings of fruit, and 4-5 servings of vegetables sounds like a lot, doesn’t it?

A serving is half a cup. Except for greens which are a cup for a serving. Now measure out half a cup and you’ll see its not very much at all!

Here’s a bunch of ways to get those servings in easily – Continue reading

Save the Berries!

Save the BerriesHave you been strawberry picking?

Got a mulberry tree?

It’s getting near the end of berry season and there are berries and cherries everywhere. You might even be sick of them already!

But soon you’ll wish you had some. Instead of letting all those berries and cherries go to waste, freeze them.

Simply line a cookie sheet with waxed paper.

Place the berries in a single layer, not touching.

Put in the freezer.

Once they are frozen you can pack them in storage containers in the freezer.

They’ll be great to have on hand to make your breakfast smoothies. I have 2 containers of cherries in the freezer for cherry crisp this fall! Yum! One of my favs 🙂
