Setting goals that will stick for the New Year

how to make dreams come trueIts that quiet time in-between Christmas and New Year’s when we sit and ponder why the heck we ate so much over the last 2 weeks, and what we want to change in the next year.

A lot of people say things like I want to lose weight, or I want to quit smoking, or I want to get a new job.

The problem with these ‘resolutions’ are that they have no substance. Nothing to really motivate you.

If you want things to change this year – you need to set goalsĀ

How are you going to lose weight?

How much weight?

What kind of job?

I am going to lose 45 pounds by cutting out sugar and eating more vegetables. I am going to work out for 30 minutes 3 times a week.

I am going to get a better job by increasing my skills and networking.

Make a solid plan to reach your goals.

But there is one more ingredient that will make reaching your goals more likely.

Why do you want this?

What is your big reason?

Do you want to wake up and not be in pain?

Do you want to have enough energy to play with your kids?

Do you want to feel good when you look in the mirror?

Do you want to rub in in your ex’s face?

Do you want to live?

Do you want your family to live in a nicer area where the kids can go to better and safer schools?

Do you want the peace of knowing the bills are paid every month with a little left over for saving and fun?

Do you want to be able to help your parents?

Are you afraid of retirement?

What are your big reasons? What will drive you to reach your goals?

Something to think about as this year draws to a close…
