Thanksgiving prep – next steps

Wild Turkey a-1Thanksgiving is almost upon us!

By the end of this weekend, you should –

– Have your head count

– Know what everyone is bringing, if anything

– Have bought everything except the freshest foods. I leave vegetables and rolls until the day before. I forgot dish soap…

– Have pick up times scheduled for any special order foods

– Have the house thoroughly cleaned

– Have your tablecloths ready

Its a good idea to have plenty of clean sheets and towels, extra toothbrushes, and basic medicines like aspirin or advil, pepto and such just in case. Especially with the crazy weather.

Some people like to start cooking ahead of time. To me, that is like serving leftovers. I want it totally fresh!

If you have extra time and energy, you could get your good dishes washed.

The biggest turkey I could find was 22.5 pounds. There won’t be many leftovers this year…And after last year, I’m making more sweet potatoes, green beans, and cranberries. I hardly had any left last year!

Its a good idea to have a good feather duster so you can do a quick touch up dust.

Don’t forget to check things like toilet paper, tissues, dish soap, sponges, paper towels, foil, storage containers…. I forgot the dish soap.

If you are the ones traveling –

Make sure to check all of your fluids, the tires, and wiper blades. I got my oil changed today. I’m not traveling, but its been so cold already I wanted to make sure to get it done. I still need wiper blades, and probably a new battery. UGH!

Make sure you have blankets, flashlights, first aid, and water. Battery cables are a good idea. I need a new set myself. With this cold spreading so far south this year, this might be something you may not have had to think about before.

It wouldn’t be a bad idea to throw a change of clothes for everyone in the car, just in case you end up staying somewhere.

That should keep you busy. Remember that the more you have done now, the less stress you’ll have come Wednesday. Have a great weekend!
