Who are you anyway?

How do you see yourself?

If you’ve had trouble reaching your goals, it could be because of how you see yourself. Science now says that we typically won’t do anything that goes against how we identify ourselves…

Someone who identifies as a non-drinker won’t drink.

Someone who identifies their self as someone who does not do drugs, won’t do drugs.

Someone who identifies as a vegan won’t eat a steak.

So how does that work in your life?

When it comes to your home, do you see yourself as someone who –

  • is a slob, or
  • is pretty neat, or
  • is a clean freak?

When it comes to your diet, do you see yourself as someone who –

  • eats a lot of junk food, or
  • eats mostly healthy, or
  • eats only vegan or paleo, or keto…?

When it comes to your job, do you see yourself as someone who –

  • only does the minimum required to get by, or
  • gets their work done well and on time, or
  • consistently goes above and beyond?

So what does all this mean?

Well, say you want to keep a cleaner house. If you identify yourself as a slob, it will be very hard for you to change your behavior.

If you want to lose weight and/or get healthier, but you identify yourself as someone who eats only junk food – it will be almost impossible to change.

So what can you do?

Its actually easier than you think.

First, make some really simple changes. I mean stupid simple.

When it comes to your house – make sure you are keeping up with the simple habits you learned in your starter mini-course. After a couple of weeks you’ll be really proud of yourself.

Next, get in the habit of putting things away  right away. hmmmm, place looks pretty good…

You are becoming someone who keeps a pretty clean house!

When it comes to your diet – start by eating one serving of vegetables a day, replace one pop with water.

After a week of doing this every day, double it and nix one bad food.

Make sure you plan your dinner before you leave the house in the morning like you did in your starter mini-course.

After a few weeks, you’ll start to feel like someone who eats mostly healthy. And truthfully – that is good enough for you to get healthier and lose weight. Just add exercise!

Oh yeah, you’re someone who hates exercise.

Start small. Take a walk down the street after dinner. Work up to walking around the block. Soon you’ll be able to walk a couple miles. I love my after dinner walks. Well…when its nice out.

Now add some of these fitness tips to get toned and in shape.

Wow, you’ve become someone who lives a healthier lifestyle!

Once you start behaving like the person you want to be, even if its baby steps – you start to change your identity. Your behavior changes to reflect the new you, and your life begins to reflect it too.

Use this basic principal to accomplish any goal. Start off with simple steps. Master that and move on to the next steps. You’ll build your confidence along the way.

Remember, you can’t eat an elephant in one sitting. You have to eat it one bite at a time.

Just keep making consistent little changes and in no time you’ll be amazed at how far you’re come!
